Fuel your creativity with weird and wild writing prompts. Inspire and be inspired by others! This isn't a class, but will be a lot of fun with words.
For the November 13 program, children's librarian Megan will have some activities to get the creative ideas flowing. Plus, we're going to have a visit from a special guest! Amelie Anastasia Kurshuk, age 10, a child author and philanthropist will drop by during the program to meet our aspiring young writers. Amelie published her first book, Fox Tales, at the age of 8, after writing it during her second grade homeschooling program. She decided to donate 10 percent of her profits to her school when she returned to in-person schooling, and the rest she saved up to publish her second book, Fox Tales 2, which was released in February 2024.
Amelie is an incredible writer and budding philanthropist, and she has inspired many people here in Northern Michigan, where she sells her books in local stores including the wonderful McLean and Eakin bookstore in her hometown of Petoskey. Amelie's books have been given as a prize in a youth writing competition in Europe to encourage other young authors on their writing journey, as well. She is working with our local Humane Society to create a unique book series to support the shelter and encourage animal adoption, with plans for participation in the largest annual fundraiser to auction off the name of a main character in her upcoming series. Amelie has been inspired by her experiences as a young author to encourage other young writers to write, publish and promote their work. Out of this inspiration was born Amelie’s podcast, "What’s Up Young Authors!", where Amelie interviews other young authors about their work, their process from writing to publishing and promoting, and their plans for the future. You can learn more about Amelie and her work on her website.
