Event Details

We have weekly chess club and monthly chess tournaments, but our classics are your chance to really COMPETE! Sign up now to participate in the second annual Petoskey Fall Chess Classic on Saturday, October 19, at the Carnegie Building in downtown Petoskey.

The tournament is open to all ages and will consist of four rounds, timed-controlled at 45 minutes per player with a 10-second delay. There will be two sections for participants: an open section for players with any rating or who are unrated, and a reserve section for players rated 1200 and under or unrated.

Custom glazed cups designed by a local pottery shop will be presented as trophies. In the open section, players finishing in first, second, and third, as well as the top player under 1600, will be awarded. In the reserve section, the first and second place finishers will be awarded, along with the top player under 700.

Membership in the Michigan Chess Association (MCA) and in the US Chess Federation (USCF) required for all players. Players under age 18 should contact the tournament director for financial assistance with membership fees.

Tournament entry is free for players ages 8-18, while the cost to participate for persons over age 18 is $10, if registered before October 19. (The cost will be $15 if registering the day of the event.)

Carnegie Building doors will open at 8 a.m. with sign-in running until 9 a.m. USCF and MCA memberships will also be available for purchase that day. The first round is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Details and links to obtain memberships and to register for the tournament are available at https://www.petoskeylibrary.org/chess/.
