Join us in the upper level of the Carnegie Building on Monday, October 6, at 6:00pm, for a presentation by historian David Kaplan on the life of Captain Edward J. Smith, from his boyhood home in Hanley, England, to his final day onboard the Titanic. The presentation will emphasize the incredible odds that developed against Captain Smith that resulted in the Titanic’s collision with an iceberg. The presentation concludes with how Captain Smith is remembered.
David Kaplan is a retired teacher and has been a Titanic historian for over 50 years. He has been a member of the Titanic Historical Society for over four decades and also the Titanic International Society, the Titanic Society of Atlantic Canada, the Belfast Titanic Society, and the British Titanic Society. He has been lucky to have meet 18 survivors of the Titanic tragedy, some more than once, and has visited many Titanic-related worldwide sites.
